Are you asking for info on XP or another OS? Typically, yes, but want to be sure.

And thanks for your answer. F6 isn't working on the "back-up" install CD that some out of business small business person burned for the person I'm working for trying to get their computer up and running again. I was wondering if it was a fault in the burned CD where as my upgrade CD is genuine. Now, they DO have a genuine key, so there's really no fowl here. It's just that they have an Intel 40GB SSD (SATA) installed in a 17 year old computer using an add-on card and XP won't see the SSD no matter what I do, even though the BIOS does. I even tried installing their XP on a HDD and using Intel's cloning software but even though it said it was rated for XP it crashed before it cloned a single file. 🙁 I even tried an Nlite custom XP CD with the driver on it and XP Setup STILL refused to see the SSD. But XP on the HDD DOES see the SSD when your IN the OS once you've installed the SATA control card software. One thing I'm not sure about is that this add-on card's software is an exe file that when opened in 7zip shows 2 nondescript files that I can't unzip or open any further so I'm not even sure F6 will work. Oh and I still haven't found a 30 year old floppy disk that a floppy drive can even read, let alone hold data. This person may have to settle with XP on the HDD or buy a newer system. I've spent so much time on this seemingly simple reinstall that this computer is making me look like a jackass..........

Had to ask. Members post in the wrong sections all of the time and we don't get that many XP threads anymore. A defective CD is certainly a possibility.

Is the SSD operating in IDE or AHCI mode?

If I remember correctly (since I'm not there) according to the boot priority list it's IDE.

Your best hope is to locate the drivers for the card the SSD is attached to and use those as you seemed to have been trying to do. Do you have any make/model info for that device?

Yes, its a Silicon Image (Sil) 3512 SATALink Controller. As I said, the file I have is an exe which when opened in 7zip shows 2 files that can't be opened or unzipped further. I'm not sure yet if Windows Setup will be able to use it or not since it's and exe file.

Edit: Never mind I just checked again in google and found a driver for the 3112 which the readme file describes as 3X12 driver so I'm assuming it works for any 3X12 controller.
