So i have a optiplex 380 sff lying around and decided to buy a graphics card for it. I originally wanted to install a GT 740 into the system but i am afraid that it wont fit as there is less room between the hard drive caddy and pci express x 16 slot. Has anyone tried instlaling a gt 740 into the 380 sff before?

Hello thanks for the quick reply, the power supply currently is a 235 watt psu... I believe this should work fine... What about your opinion? I was also looking at the GT 730 as the fan on it is as wide as the single slot low profile bracket. My concern for the GT 730 is if the fan will touch the hard drive caddy. What would happen if the card barely fits in, as if it was touching the caddy that holds the hard drive in? Sorry for these questions, im new to upgrading PCs.

You need to be specific on which graphics card but any single slot low profile will fit without hitting anything.

The pci slot is irrelevant. It's btx so the cooler goes up towards the hdd caddy. The evga you posted will not fit. That is a dual slot cooler.

Every GPU is recommending a 300w PSU. While my PSU is 235w. Should i just try installing a GPU or just forget about upgrading it? Currently the system has a intel g41 express chipset, was wondering if i upgraded the ram from 2 gb to 4 gb would have any impact on performance. The motherboard only has 2 dimm slots, and i was thinking to add another 2 gb ddr3 memory into the 2nd dimm slot.

Why are you upgrading? What do you use the pc for? Ram will help. My laptop has 2gb and fills all the time. My older desktop has 4gb and it's good for light gaming. A 730 will work with that psu. The recommendations are estimating other specs and actual should be calculated with the actual hardware.

Any GPU that would be the fastest for less than 100$ that works with my PSU is fine. It wont matter if its AMD or nVidia. I just want something that is worth buying for less than 100$ that works with my PSU, nothing else.
BTW: I was wondering will adding another stick of 2gb ram would work with that PSU with a graphics card. I want everything to be stable, without random reboots due to not enough wattage...
According to http://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator, I have calculated all the components including anotehr 2 gb ddr3 memory and gt 730 1 gb gddr5, the max load wattage is 171 watts.Would it be good enough for it to be a stable system?

Alright. One more question. Sorry if I'm asking too much non sense questions, but would 1 GB GDDR5 vram be able to handle games like GTA V and so on? It looks a bit too little to use for gaming. So as with gaming should I go for the normal 2 GB DDR3 version or 1 GDDR5 version?

Would it be bad if the hard drive is somewhat blocking airflow to the GPU? I measured it, and came up to a conclusion that there would be barely any space for that fan to actually breathe...
