Hello!

I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card from a GTX 560 Ti to a GTX 970 (This is the one I'm currently looking at buying).

I know that by moving some HDD's around I will be able to fit the card in the case I have (Nzxt hush). The problem is my motherboard, which is a MSI b75ma-p45 (image) which has the SATA-ports in a very weird spot. GTX 970 is a monster of a card and I think that it would cover the top four of these ports, of which I will (at least) have to use the 6 gb/s port.

To my question:
I want to use the 6gb/s SATA-port, which will most likely be covered by the card. Is this possible using an angled sata? Or will the port + cable rise too high, thereby making it impossible to use the SATA 6-gb/s? I did a quick measure and I think that the port + cable will "rise" from the card to a height of about 20 millimeters, in case that helps.

I understand if this is a hard one to answer, but I am kind of hoping that someone has been in my situation and it worked out :)

Thanks in advance!

Solution
judging by your picture, the GTX 970 would cover AT MOST the top 2, if at all, and it certainly wouldn't cover the top 4.

You're grossly overestimating the size of the card. Assuming the 6Gb/s port is the white one, you should be fine.
Please mention your CPU. Itll be much easier to answer this question
However based on your current motherboard....
Check the Z77 series of intel. Dont know your budget so wont be able to suggest an exact model, but the Z77 series motherboards should take care of your problem

I think you may be right, Entomber. I did a quick measure, the card is supposed to be 4 centimeters high, and it seems that it is covering the top two and almost the lower four. I think it might fit anyway then.. thanks! As you said, I overestimated the size by a about a cm (which made a huge difference). It was hard to see though since the chassi is so cramped :)

If I order the card, I will return here and add the results for future reference.

This guy playing Shadow of Mordor has the same Motherboard and a GALAX GTX 970.

Measurements in Centimeters:

GALAX GTX 970 - 27.1 (L) x 12.43 (H) x 4.15 (W)

ASUS STRIX GTX 970 - 27.94 (L) x 13.97 (H) x 3.98 (W)

MSI B75MA-P45 - 24.4 (L) x 22.5 (W)

ASUS is only 0.84 Centimeters longer and width wise 0.17 Centimeters lesser. Both these cards exceed the length of your motherboard. So if that person can fit his GALAX GTX 970, you too should be able to fit in your GTX 970.

Bought it, installed it and the definite answer is that YES it does fit. I have some pictures as well that I will post. It turns out that the card only blocks the top two sata-ports.

EDIT:
Pictures are here: IMGUR.

They ended up upside down for some reason.
