By 2K do you mean 2.5K / 2560x1440?
And yes the extra monitor for random stuff won't affect fps much. And the 980 performs very well at 1440P, should do 60 fps at max settings without MSAA I would think, assuming you've got an i5 or i7 CPU.

Thanks
I have an i7
I thought it was 2k not 2.5k but thanks for telling me
The "K" is a bit ambiguous, but 2K is roughly 1080P... 1920x1080 would be considered 2K by most people, although technically speaking (in the film/cinema world) 2K is 2048x1080. Just like how 4K is considered 3840x2160 (double the dimensions of 1920x1080) by most, or officially 4096x1080 in film world.
2560x1440 could be called 2.5K, although it's usually just called 1440P or QHD (quad HD since it has 4x the pixels than 1280x720 which is the lowest res that can be considered HD).
