PCIE slot are all retro-compatible so there is no problem. I have seen benchmark between a 3.0 GPU in a 2.0 slot and performance loss were around 5%. But overall, it will work and you will have a big performance gain.

It will certainly work, PCI-E 2.0 works perfect with GPUs and other components rocking the latest PCI-E 3.0. You will not spot any noticable performance difference than if you were to put the GTX 780 on a mobo with PCI-E 3.0.

"The new PCI-Express 3.0 interface can provide around 1% performance boost for both HD 7970 and GTX 680"
