Question Will a i7 7700k work with my B250 motherboard?

I have a MSI B250 Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard and an Intel Pentium G4400 CPU and I want to upgrade to an i7 7700k, can my motherboard handle that? Will I have any issues? If so are there other comparable LGA1151 CPUs that I can use? Will an i7 7700 work instead?

It'll work but you'll want a good CPU cooler as I doubt the stock cooler is going to cut it.

Yes that motherboard will work with the core i7 7700K, you wont be able to overclock it. And as WildCard999 mention, you will need to buy an aftermarket cooler (something like Hyper 212 EVO, Gammaxx 400 or the likes, will do the trick).

And no, as long as your mobo is in good condition and you have a decent PSU (Power Supply) from a known brand, the 7700K should work just fine (make sure you have the right BIOS installed on your motherboard so it recognize the 7700K).

The 7700 will work too, it does/should come with an aftermarket cooler, it should be cheaper, but you will lose a bit of performance, not much. Going with the 7700K, an overcloking enable CPU, with your motheroard doesn't make much sense, but it will be the highest performance gain cause of its higher base and boost clock speed.

And finally, whatever you choose (7700 or 7700K) it will be a huge, nah, H U G E upgrade over your Pentium G4400.

OK, I have a Gammaxx Deepcool GT, so that shouldn't be an issue, but how do I know if I have the right BOIS? And what do I need to update to make my BIOS recognize the i7?

The B250 board doesn't require a BIOS update for the 7700K since it worked with your G4400.

As there is no stock cooler for the 7700K included, concur 100% with assessment that the included 'stock cooler will not cut it'!

Only problem with the 7700K is it's current cost....; at it's current ~$345 or so (plus $50 at least for a Mugen5 or similar), it's cost would allow purchase instead of a new R5-3600 and an X470 mainboard (get one pre-flashed to support 3000-series CPUs if possible)
