Hi all,

I'm am building my first gaming pc soon and I am hoping it to last me around 4-5 years with decent settings and framerates. I am planning to upgrade components such as the ram and graphics cards, but I was hoping that I would not have to upgrade my CPU if I went with the Intel Core i7 4790K. Would this last me my 4-5 years or would I be better off going with a cheaper CPU like a Core i5 now and upgrading later.

Thanks!

For most people probably yes, it primarily depends on you, your needs and your wallet ;) Often one is happy and comes into cash and jumps into a mobo/CPU upgrade. ;)

I've just built my rig, I went with the i7-4790k: the best processor on LGA-1150, I had my GPU for the last year on a crippled mobo, now it stretched its legs, and I am playing the witcher 3 and shadow of mordor at high settings with 70+ FPS. I was on the same situation as you, and i thought I will stick with the i7-4790K for 3-4 years and upgrade the gpu (may be the volta gpu of nvidia) and RAM (going up the numbers until 32GB!) in middle of the road. Then I will change mobo, ram and processor for LGA1151 (DDR4) or what comes next.
