Will a non K cpu work with a Z97 motherboard? Because I know H97 are specifically for Non-k CPUs. I'm not going to overclock so I thought the extra for a K CPU was pointless.
Yes Z97 will work with any Socket 1150 CPU (check Motherboard support list, but Z97 should cover pretty much any socket 1150 CPU's, including Celeron/Pentium/etc.).

Z97 boards normally have a few extra power phases/higher quality power delivery systems in order to acheive higher and more stable overclocks if you were to do so.
One other important factor to consider, the H97 will not split the PCIe root allowing SLI or XFire, so if you plan on having a pair of graphics cards sometime in the future the Z97 is the way to go.
