Will a normal plastic mat over carpet reduce static

The room I plan to build in is carpeted but simple plastic mats are laid around the desks will this help prevent a LARGE amount of static or should I choose a different workspace

that will help but would be better not to have any carpet at all .

Plastic is a poor conductor of electricity so it will be fine for static.
