Hi. I'm trying to increase my RAM. Currently I have in Slot 2: KVR1333D3N9/2G and Slot 4: KVR1333D3S8N9/2G, which are both x8 bus width. Can I install KVR13N9S6/2 (x16 bus width) in slots 1 and 3?

I understand that memory modules of same specs should be installed in pairs for dual channel to work. It also says on the manual that the DRAM bus width of the memory module must be the same (x8 or x16) - does this mean I can install a pair of x16 RAM in slot 2 & 4, and x8 RAM in slot 1 & 3?

Core i3 2100; mobo: Biostar TZ68A+

I am not recommended you to do this. You will experience some difficulties and malfunction later. Try it if you want problem to occur. You system may not be stable and you will feel that you comp not like a brand new anymore and efficiency will reduce. You can do what you want if you want to experiment it but trust me, dont.

Please install the same spec, brand and capacity because your mobo is dual system. I believe you already read the mobo manual. There is the reason why manufacture do the regulation and system which i wont cover into this topic because it would take me long type to cover just to tell you why. Long story short, dont do it.

You are looking at most likely incomaptible ram for your motherboard. I recommend you just get a 2*4gb kit and replace the ones that are currently in your system.

Nothing is stopping you from installing a pair of x16 RAM in slot 2 & 4, and x8 RAM in slot 1 & 3. You are free to do your own compatibility testing.

Such combinations are not guaranteed to work by memory manufacturers. Mixing together multiple kits can cause the PC to be unable to boot or to be unable to operate at rated specifications.

I agree with you. However, a 2 pc 4GB kit is still a bit expensive for me. Since I'm upgrading an old system, I figured I'd do it the least costly way possible and save up until I get to build a new one.

I understand, but I only have the x8s. I posted the question here because maybe someone has already done it. And, I wanted to know if my understanding of the mobo's manual is correct. I'm trying to decide if I should get the x16s. Aside from compatibility, the cost is also a big factor. The x16s I found are more affordable for me.
