Will a PCI-E 3.0 x4 graphics card work in PCI-E 1.0 x16 slot?

i am buying a GT 1030, but i have some questions,
will a PCI 3.0 x4 card fit and work in PCI 1.0 x16 slot?
and the second, is an quad 2 quad Q6600 suitable for this card?no bottlenecks? the card is nearly equal to a GTX 750 ti.

A 1030 will only use x4 of the PCIe lanes - it can physically fit a x16 slot, yes.

As for the dated system, the Gen1 shouldn't be an issue alone, but you may well have some BIOS/UEFI related errors in getting the 1030 to work.

Which motherboard do you have? I'd search for the motherboard and see if anybody has a 900 series (or 10 series) card working with it.
