I have an old stock pc and i tried to upgrade it by buying a XFX radeon rx560. I bought it for light gaming. I took it to a pc shop so that they would install it but they told me that the gpu requires x16 slot on the motherboard, which mine motherboard doesn’t have. How so? I thought that pcie is backward/forward compatible. Will it work?

If the slot is 16x size but 8x speed or an 8x slot with an open back it will work but if its a true 8x slot with a closed back it won't physically fit. What the make and model of the system or motherboard? 8x slots are mainly found in servers.

It does physically fit, however it doesn’t post anything when i try to boot and that’s why i took it to the pc shop. I’m sorry but I can’t provide any information about the motherboard. I know that the stock gpu is Powercolor Radeon HD 6570. What should i do if it doesn’t post? I tried taking the gpu out and in multiple times and i also reinstalled the CMOS battery but there were no results.
