It says its AM3 compatible, and if the CPU is compatible with this motherboard will it be able to run on my current DDR2 800 ram or am i have to go out and buy some DDR3 ram.

And for one thing i know this motherboard is compatible with the current AMD Phenom II X3 720 triple core. So the AMD Phenom II X2 550 has to work! Since I'm pretty sure these chips are the same but the 720 just has a extra core since there made by disabling cores... Correct me if I'm wrong.

I currently have a AMD Athlon X2 7750 @ 3.0GHz with 2GB of DDR2 800 Ram all hooked up on the Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 Motherboard.

And i'm very interested in this Phenom II X2 550 for an upgrade.

It is fully DDR2 compatible, the CPU should be compatible with that motherboard, at worst you will need a BIOS upgrade but chances are you won't even need to do that.

Yeah, the Phenom II X2s are originally 4 core CPUs with 2 deactivated cores. The Athlon II X2s are different though in that they are made as dual core CPUs rather than from defective 4 core CPUs as is the case for the Phenom II X2s. Anyway if the BIOS on your board can handle a 720BE then it should boot up just fine with a Pheon II X2 550. You may need a BIOS upgrade to recognize it properly though.

550 is actually $110 at newegg, and I don't where you can buy it with $100.
I think it is not much a deal compared to 750 at $140. It is just my opinion.
