Will a Radeon R7 250 be compatible with my computer??

HP pavilion(desktop)
Intel Core 2 Duo.
4GB RAM.
Windows 7 64-bit.
500GB HDD.
450w SMPS.
So will i be able to install this graphics card?
also im confused between the R7 250 and Nvidia GeForce GT 640 2GB. so which one is better?
i play games like batman, assasin's creed,crysis, FIFA-14,Battlefield,sleeping dogs etc 😛
Also im confused with my SMPS, the R7 requires a 400w power supply, ao which smps do i buy? im a little low on budget 😛 so i was thinking a Zebronic.

a radeon hd 7770 or 7790 is probly better value at that price range.

edit: the r7 250 is faster than the gt 640. all 4 cards can run on a 450W psu.

Go with R7 250, it consumes 75W max on full load, so your PSU can handle the GPU, no need to replace it.

HD 7750 is also another great option, bit fast than R7 250, and requires same amount of power.

I think your PSU has no 6 pin PCI-E connector, so don't think of HD 7770 or 7790, they will need 6 pin peg connector.

And if you want to buy a SMPS/PSU don't buy your chosen one, rather go with CX 430W(good one) or 500W(budget one) of Corsair, not the best but will do for you.

The SMPS is not good. Even if ur smps is a high quality one, it cannot handle the hd 6670. If u go for a graphics card more than the hd 6670, the performance would decrease as the processor is old and weak. Buy a 400 watt smps or more. The Zebronic u listed will support the hd 6670 but its life time will be only for a year. If thats ok then buy the zebronic

i bought the R7 250 and a 450w PSU. after i installed all the drivers, and connected my VGA cable to the GPU s slot. the monitor still is in sleep mode! and when i opened the cabin, the fan in the GPU wasnt spinning! 🙁

What is the make/model of your newly bought PSU ?

If you have another PCI-E slot on your MB then try that slot, or try the GPU on another PC. See what happens.

There could be several reasons for GPU fan not spinning: 1. The PSU not providing enough power to PCI-E slot. 2. The PCI-E slot/s are faulty. 3. The GPU itself is faulty. 4. GPU not properly fitted into slot. 5. You may need to update the MB BIOS for proper function of GPU, it could be the MB is not seeing the GPU as an external display device.

You can try the clear CMOS method also, by removing the CMOS battery for five minutes, it will set the BIOS to its default.

If everything fails to run the GPU, then RMA would be the last resort.

It is a zebronic 450w pcu. the gold series one.

Frankly this is the problem with branded PC's, the BIOS being locked for an upgrade, and I think this is the real issue you are having now. Anyways try the methods I mentioned earlier, and try to upgrade the BIOS of MB, might work for you. Good luck.

Yes you can try the old PSU to test. GPU makers always inflate the wattage of their product to stay safe, so you can try the old PSU, atleast to see if the fan of GPU is spinning or not. Keep us posted.

you can safely purchase R7 250 , im using power colour r7 250 , its working fine i have purchased last week my psu is umax 450 w ,
