You will need to update the BIOS unless it specifically said it was Ryzen 3000 ready on the Box.

You'll almost certainly need to update the BIOS.

Luckily, the B450 Tomahawk has a "BIOS Flash" button, which will allow you to update the BIOS with only CPU & ATX power installed (no CPU, no memory etc).
Just a USB with the BIOS file, in the correct USB slot, push the button & wait.

the chances of an existing inventory/already owned MB's BIOS being Ryzen 3000 ready without a BIOS update are just about none. So best to plan on needing one of those old-gen AM4 compatible CPUs (or borrow someone's R3-1200?) to flash the BIOS , short of a thoughtful seller /retailer perhaps undertaking the task for marketing combos, etc...
