Will a SAS drive work as a boot drive with a SAS RAID controller?

Yes as long as you get a controller for it and make sure controller is compatible with the motherboard.

Which it looks like the one you picked out will do just that. Just make sure its compatible with your mobo.

Check what PCI type your motherboard uses and make sure the card is the same. Other then that, it should work.
