[SOLVED] Will a sata3 drive work with a sata6 cable and port?

HI I am wanting to get a new hardrive and the only ones are sata3 and I only have sata 6 ports on my motherboard. Would the drive work?

everything is backwords and forwards compatible and will run at the slowest speed of the two.

Motherboard SATA I and HDD SATA III then it runs as SATA I speeds and visa versa

Ok so it will just run like normal at sata 3 speeds

There are no SATA6 ports. SATA3 can transfer at 6 Gb/sec. Maybe that's what is confusing you.
