Hello I have i5 6600 skylake processor, old motherboard died just order a new one.

ASUS PRIME B250M-PLUS

I just looked after I ordered and it says it is "kaby lake socket" it is a 1151 board, is it just marketing or will it not be compatible, I didn't know kaby lake existed until now, thanks :)

Its unfortunate that at this point we have to make sure that every piece of hardware will place nice with each other. I'm at the point now of building based on QVLs, which I'm sure will run me a nice premium for those vendors that pay for a QVL.

Good luck. In the past, as long as the socket was the right fit, you'd be good to go. At the least I guess your ram should run at 2133.

that's always been the case...

to the op. the board you ordered should have a pretty clear spec list of the processors, ram, pci-e slots etc that it supports. all you need to do is review your existing hardware to verify it'll accept it. honestly... you maybe should have done this first.
