Will a soundcard give me a better mic input quality?

I have an "Antlion modmic" microphone but the sound from the mic is not that good. I use the standard mic input on my motherbord. Will a sound card give me better mic quality? I will use the mic for skype.
I have Asus Z-97A motherbord.
