So basically, I'm wondering if my motherboard (CM6870 (LGA1155) Asus) might explode if I put in a old 600 watt power supply (as of which I dont know the model of..) and I was wondering if my poor little motherboard might be overwhelmed by the 300 watts required by my new graphics card... so yeah... please help... will the power travelling through the motherboard make it explode?

TL😀R does large amounts of power going through my motherboard make it explode

no. imagine the PSU like a grocery store. if you just grab a carton of milk you don't get a nervous breakdown due to the many many goods sold their that you don't need (unless there's something wrong with you)

if your PSU has 600W but the board and components only need 200, they will only draw 200.
also since the GPU is powered by a cable coming from the PSU it doesn't really need to be powered by the board and just send the data over, so to speak.

but of course if the PSU is bad quality and the board is old and you attempt to OC there's a lot that can go wrong. but this depends more on the PSU's quality than on it's wattage.
