Usb3 is backwards compatible , which means it can plug into and run on usb 2.0 or usb 1.0 ,
it just means that the speed of the data transfer will not be as fast on usb 2.0 or 1.0 as it would on usb 3.0 but it will still work

well, if you have a usb port you can plug it in and use it, but you will run at the lower speeds + your computer is pretty old (this also causes low speeds)
Also check if your OS can support it
on the other hand you can get a external HDD anyways because you might have to upgrade your rig someday
