Will a WD My Cloud do this?

I just began networking my home PC's because I was getting tired of hooking up external HDD's to transfer large video files. It's nice to be able to see the other PC and playback a file over the LAN. I need to upgrade my old WRT54 whatever Linksys router though, something 1Gb would be nice.

While I am searching for that (recommendations appreciated on the cheap) I also want to handle automating full PC image backups, as well as separate automatic file/documents backups to a NAS. I like looking at the ads for the WD My Cloud series, and I am wondering if they are a good solution for my needs? I assume I just run a LAN cable to it from the router and then Windows 7 Pro PC's will allow automated (scheduled) full and file backups to the NAS from backup and restore center? Everything involved here will be hard cabled to the router.

Thanks!

Paul

Merry Chirstmas, Paul! ^^

Yes, the WD My Cloud will be able to perform automatic scheduled backups and it is pretty easy to set up as well.
You would be able to perform different types of backups for all your computers because it comes with its own backup software - the SmatWare Pro. It offers different options for what, when and how you backup your data. Here's a link to the software's features: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=xlsYsJ

As for the My Cloud series, you can check more about those here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=F4lBRZ

Hope this helped! Happy Holidays! :)
