I am looking to purchase parts for a hew computer and i am wondering if my current motherboard is compatible with the new processor i plan on getting. If it does work, is it still worth upgrading to the am3+ board? And will my current RAM work with an upgraded motherboard?

Sorry, no it won't. A88X Pro is an FM2 socket and FX 8350 requires AM3+ board.

The DDR3 RAM should work.

It's really old tech now. It's only really worth upgrading if you're getting really good deals on the board and processor OR your budget just won't allow going for all-new tech. Unfortunately the DDR4 memory needed for the new stuff is still a bit pricey otherwise a B450 board and R7-2600 processor could probably be picked up at close to same price as an FX 8350 and the beefy AM3 board it will need.

FX 8350's are new on Newegg for $75 and $50 used. A 2600 is $160+ that would be quite the deal at $75.

A Athlon X860 will work with a X88 board but the performance isn't anything great. The combo is good for most MOBA's, Fortnite under very low settings and will handle POE or D3 fairly well.

FX8350 + 970 or 990X AM3+ board is a little stronger than the above FM2+ when overclocked and will offer a little bit more performance but both are something like 40% slower in single core performance over the lowest you can find in the current AM4 and LGA1151-3 setups.

As far as used hardware goes you can find 4th gen I5's,motherboard and RAM for around $150 and that offers you better FPS over anything on AM3 and FM2+.
