will an external gpu be good for my situation?

hello im a student and i will be going to university next year. ive got a budget of $1500 to build a pc but i just realised that i wont be able to bring a pc with me. im planning to buy a laptop with an i7 7700hq and an external gpu(a gtx1070 maybe). i will be using that laptop for my courses and gaming as well. i wont buy a gaming laptop for university beacause of battery and heating issues. so can you help me with the laptop i can buy and if the external gpu is a good to go plan. thanks

Just get a good gaming laptop with a 1060 6gb. They dont tend to have heating or battery issues when you arent gaming, will work just like a normal laptop.
