Will an fx-9370 bottleneck a gtx 970?

I'm looking at a second hand PC with an fx 9370 and a gtx 970, and I want to know if the cpu will bottleneck the gpu? Also, the seller says that he is running the cpu on an asus m5a97 r2? I thought that you couldn't run them on anything but a 990fx.

Solution

Yeah, until it just catches fire and then kills the whole system. Might happen soon. Also, I'm 100% certain It's probably throttling in performance already. Some people can't tell when that's happening. I doubt your friend has the knowledge when he decided to pair that CPU with that motherboard in the first place. Just Google it, you'll realise using that CPU is stupid.

Any Pro will tell you to not buy a CPU with such a crappy board.

I don't know about the cpu/mobo compatability but, the fx9370 should have plenty of power to pair fine with a gtx 970. Would the system as a whole pull a few more fps with a 6 core i7.... probably, but who has money to burn like that for an extra 6% of performance?

the answer is yes, in gaming an i3 can beat it sometimes, also not good for VR, or high refresh monitor gaming

they dont run well at all without a 990fx, known to cause issues even with such a motherboard

the 9370 is not listed in the compatible list of cpu's for that board, stay far away

maybe you misunderstood and he actually has a 8370

either way a am3+ setup is obsolete, if you want to buy a pc wait

the release of ryzen is soon or you can get yourself an i5 7500 setup with a rx 480 or gtx 1060

I'm on a bit of a tight budget, but I have a build in mind with the part costs totalling at $694 AUD, (monitor included in price) as I received a hd6970 off a friend. It includes a pentium g4560 and 8gb of ddr4, with an msi h110m gaming mobo. This build wouldn't be quite as good as the secondhand one, but I guess it would be more reliable, so what do you guys think? $700 for the 9370 + 970 + 16gb build? or build myself for more reliability? also, about the mobo compatability, i asked the seller about it and he sent me a link of compatible mobos for the 9370 (http://www.pc-specs.com/cpu/AMD/FX/FX-9370/1876/Compatible_Motherboards), and the m5a97 is in there, so now i'm confused :/

FX-9370 paired with a budget asus M5A97 R2.0 BOARD? DON'T BUY THAT CRAP.

The FX-9370 is extremely power heavy and needs a motherboard that's ready to pull 225w, it needs more than adequate VRM cooling. You'd be making a big mistake buying that. If it isn't listed as compatible, It's got a reasoning behind it.

The Pentium G4560 is a much better choice.

Yeah, I might have to compromise the gfx a tad, but I'm only planning on 1080p on Overwatch, Rocket League, stuff like that

Also, with the part lists you created, you forgot to factor in OS costs =/
Thats alright, as I have prepared a pc build
intel pentium g4560 - 78
asus prime b250m-k - 119
powercolor hd 6970 - free (received from a friend)
crucial 1x8gb ddr4 2133 megahertz - 65
antec ea550g 80+ bronze - 115 // xfx 550w ts psu
patriot blast 240gb ssd - 48
microsoft windows 10 - 129
asus vp228ne - 139
coolermaster devastator kb/m combo - 21
total - $714 // $688 AUD
The GPU isn't the greatest, but I plan on upgrading in maybe a year, for now it will serve it's purpose well as I am just planning on playing Overwatch and Rocket League at 1920x1080, and I am happy to play on medium settings. Also, are there any differences between b250 and h270?

H270 has 4 more PCIE lanes I think, useful if you're using more than just a graphics card for your available PCIe slots (which you probably don't really need though). Think B250 has 16 PCIe lanes and H270 has 20 PCIe lanes.

Looks like the XFX TS 550w is a better deal than the Antec EA550G, but looks other than that it looks OK.

Yeah, I would choose the xfx but I can buy the antec in store not online, but I'll keep the xfx in mind, as it is cheaper and just as good
