Will an i3 540 Bottleneck a gtx 660?

very little as quad would have been much better in some games but the games you mentioned bf3 MP would be affected but very less merely unnoticable

Bf3 is almost ENTIRELY a GPU offloaded game, CPU will make a difference of 5-fps, I'd you're lucky.

So for Bf3 it wouldn't, but for more CPU intensive games, like Total War, etc. It might.

Also I hope you realize 1280x720 looks disgusting on anything bigger than 14 inches.

Yeah, I know it looks terrible. I have a 19 inch monitor. resolution is 1920x1080.

I've been told that if i bother with 1920x1080 on battlefield 3 I'll get not so great performance.

Sorry but i can't agree you. BF3 is one of the rare games that take advantage of multicore CPUs, there will be much more difference than 5fps between a dual core and a quad/hexa core CPU.

BF3 is sensitive on the CPU side. It needs a good GPU for all eye candy but without a decent quad/+ core/thread CPU it shows bottlenecks

Just increase resolution to atleast 1368*768 or 1400*900.because low resolution = more bottleneck.

If you are looking at i3's I would not buy a 1st gen I would get a 3rd gen, for example you can get mine for a pretty good price and it beats 1st gen i5's.
