I just got a Dell 9010 for free and changed out the i5-3570 for an i7-2600s to lower the power and increase the cores. I am going to be installing a GT 940 when it releases in a few weeks and the GT 940 will very likely support Directx 12. Will my CPU utilize Directx 12 when I get the new graphics card or is a 2nd generation i7 too old for it? I cannot find a definitive answer anywhere.

Yes... The CPU will work with DirectX 12. It's not really the CPU you want to check for compatibility but the graphics card. If you're buying a new 900 series card then without question it will work with DirectX 12 as long as you have Windows 10.

Okay thanks for the info. I just wasn't sure if older processors would be compatible since Direcx 12 will utilize them a lot more now. Also I definitely have Windows 10 already. I absolutely love the integration it has with my Xbox One.
