first of all, what PSU do you have? Having a proper power supply is important.

a 1650 would be a massive improvement over a GT 710. A 710 is not really for gaming.

about working on your mobo.. it probably depend on what brand of 1650. My Asus 1650 GDDR6 works just fine on older boards - using it for more than 3 years now with a Core2 Quad (it has an even older mobo than yours. lol). But I also heard some people having problem when they tried 1650 on older systems.

here is my 1650. Have also tried it on a board that uses 2nd gen intel, and it also works there.
if you're going to buy, then I suggest getting exactly this brand.

also one more important thing. This gpu likes HDMI connection to the monitor. If your monitor does not have an hdmi port, then it might not display properly if you use adapters.
