Will an Intel i7 2.5ghz (up to 3.5 GHz) bottleneck the Nvidia 970?

No. Unless it's one of the first gen i7 processors, you'll be fine.

Marklamarkleis most likely right, for most games a 2.5ghz i7 is fast enough to more than balance a 970. To see if this is true for YOU, look at benchmarks of your favorite games and see if they are video limited with a 970 or CPU limited.

Aside: Was this 2.5Ghz part the Intel Core i7 2860QM ? If so that's a 3.6 GHz beast on turbo, and absolutely will not be the limiting factor for any modern game. Or was this a different CPU ?

It's the 4. gen i7 4710HQ

Usually that's a laptop CPU... It's a beast. No problems there. Huge cpu.

It's a Laptop and it's the new GeForce gtx 970

umm, the gtx 970 is not typically used in a laptop. Double check, it's probably the GTX 970M, which is really nice.

oh yeah, that's what I meant. so the CPU is good enough for the gtx 970m?

yes, they will work very well together. This is about as strong as you can get in a gaming laptop. If you wanted stronger you'd go for more video, not more CPU. Enjoy it.
