Will Antec Earthwatts 500W PSU be enough for a GTX 770?

Hi all,

I'm looking to get the best graphics card for the budget I have, which will just about afford me a 770. But I'm worried whether the 770 may be too much for my PSU, which is an Antec Earthwatts 500W psu which came with my Antec Sonata III case.

My current setup is an i5 760, 4 GB PC12800 Ram, one 256gb SSD, one 1TB Hard drive, one DVD Rom.

Do you think I can get away with the 500w PSU? I think the max load of the 770 is 230w. I realise the 770 recommends a slightly higher wattage, but anyone know if maybe the Earthwatts 500W can provide enough given that it is meant to be decent quality?

Many thanks for any responses.

Thanks for the reply dirtyferret.

Do you know if there is much risk involved in terms of what happens if during full load you exceed the power that the PSU can provide?

With that PSU you would be cutting it very close as the GTX 770 Needs 42Amps of power across the 12v rail and this PSU has 44amps so I would recommend that you upgrade your PSU to something like a corsair with a strong 12v rail.
