I have a 775 motherboard with a 945g chipset and I would like to take it to the maximum, the only thing I know this chipset only accepts processors with 1066 mhz fsb max, 130w tdp max and 65nm processors, I wanted to see if the core 2 extreme qx6700 would be compatible with the 945g chipset or what other good options are there for this board?

Solution
But if the 4700 and the e2200 would be to risk that they do not work (I know that they are 5-10 dollars what they cost, but with that I could buy something more)
The only risk on them not working is if they are fakes or broken. A genuine used part should work fine. I have an HP that only speced up to an i5-670, and an i5-680 works fine. Generally if the cpu was in the exact same family but just a higher clock speed, it will work perfectly. I've installed e8600 cpus in systems that were speced for max of e8400 too no problem.
It seems that it is not compatible, is that in my city they sell a core 2 extreme qx6700 for 10 dollars and I would like to take advantage of the price, better I am going to buy the processor and I am going to get a motherboard that supports it.

It is a hp lancaster8 gl6 motherboard or a hp asus IPILP-LC REV 1.04 5189-0462, according to cpu-z it has a 945g chipset also my pc has 3gb of ram which the 945gc cannot support of ram

the core 2 extreme qx6700 is sold in a place where they fix pc and have several pieces of pc among them cpu they had a box full of processors in it was the c2qx6700 for them it is a normal processor but if they knew its real value they would not sell . it its used the core 2 extreme

hey guys an apology for wasting your time but I wanted to remove my curiosity since in cpu z it says that it is a 945g but when removing the chipset heatsink I saw that it was actually a 945gc :v , what I don't understand is because I have 2.5 of ram (they were not 3 of ram another error) if this 945gc does not accept more than 2gb of ram, in short an apology. Thanks and bye

Like I said, you need to give the system model number--looking at your motherboard is useless in these upgrades, and I've done tons of them.

Socket type: 775
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
  • Core 2 Duo E4x00 with Dual Core technology (Conroe) up to E4400
  • Pentium E2000 series (Conroe) up to E2160
  • Pentium D 9xx with Dual Core technology (Presler) up to 960
  • Pentium 4 6x1 series (Cedar Mill) up to 661
  • Celeron 4xx series up to 440
  • Celeron D 3xx series (Cedar Mill) up to 365
  • Celeron D 3xx series (Prescott) up to 355
Honestly you would be better off finding an old used 2nd gen core i series, or newer, office pc, than continuing to work with ancient tech that nothing supports.

Thank you. Okay, after doing some extensive searches, the qx6700 will almost definitely NOT work as this motherboard is spec'd only for 800fsb and the qx6700 needs 1066. Now, a lot of the specs on this system seem to be simply because of part availability at the time as the e2220 and e4700 are not listed, but should be 100% compatible as long as the system bios doesn't have any restrictions:
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-Core2-Duo-E4700-vs-Intel-Pentium-E2220/938vs1137

Now, if the true fsb limit is 1066 or 1333, that changes things as you can get faster dual core processors and maybe even a quad core. Unfortunately, no one has ever tested this. You could be the first, but if budgets are tight, better to go with what is known.

More than likely the memory limit is just because that's what the specs said, but if you put in period correct modules, you may be able to use more than 2GB of ram since a lot of the aftermarket boards with the same chipset could support 4GB (as well as a faster 1333fsb).

I have systems of this era and they're 'in betweeners'--not upgradeable enough to step into even the lowest part of modern computing, and at the same time silly fast for the previous generation of computing. While this system will crawl with even win7, on xp it would be quite nice and on 98se would be a monster. This is an ideal retro-gaming platform.

better I am going to keep this pc with its processor a pentium e2140 (since an e4400 would not have much difference in power) better this pc I will use it for retro games, emulators, videos, etc. I also have a gtx 650 which will not go bad at all. Thanks
