There is a large price difference when going from moderate (18") to large lcd monitors. I want to replace my crt with an lcd. I prefer a large size but not at the current prices. Has anyone heard anything about why these are so expensive and when the prices might drop to more reasonable levels?

Hehe, 18" doesn't seem very moderate when u realize it's same viewable size equiv is larger than a 19" CRT. However, everyone has their needs- for 19", u can get a VX900 for less than $1000, and as for 21-24", well, chances r they will stay as high as they are, I mean the cost goes up big when increasing # of pixels.

My frog asked me for a straw...dunno what happened he's all over the place

Costs should actually be fairly high on the price curve for 18". This summer, 17" should be quite cheap however.

Censorship makes us so much more creative.

latest news was that Samsung plans to *consider* lowering 17-in prices by end of 3Q. [http://www.digitimes.com]

Here's a snipped from a Display Research report about Genesis Micro (holds 70% of LCD controller marekt share) (posted on GNSS Yahoo-Msgboard GNSS) which is currently overheating due to yesterdays Genesis earnings warning:

"The company[GNSS] is hoping for panel price reductions to trigger demand. However, panel suppliers are faring quite well and are not in a hurry to cut prices. Prices are flattening. There may be some small price reductions in July and August, but traditionally stronger seasonal demand in Q4 and lack of supply growth will keep prices flat in Q4."

some european prices:

171P: (17") 978Euro = 928 USD
181T: (18") 1099Euro = 1043 USD
191T: (19") 1376Euro = 1305 USD
240T: (24") 4697Euro = 4456 USD
