I'm about to build a new system and I picked up an intel e8400 and 4gb (2x2) ddr2 800 mhz ram.
I wanted to know how limited my Overclocking abilities will be due to the slower ram? I believe i can get the e8400 to 3.6 easy but i was hoping to reach 3.8 if not 4

Well, you will get to about 3.6Ghz with your RAM at Stock DDR2-800.

An extra 200Mhz should not be an issue.
It all depends on the RAM how far beyond that you can go.

Usually biggers DIMMS Don't OC as much, but give it a whirl.

i have the intel e8400 dual core 3.0 ghz.

i wanted to follow up on my ram and saw its a corsair xms2 in case anyone has managed to oc that ram

The Ram will overclock to 450mhz speed easily, if my budget ones can do it, so can yours. Its not really necessary to have all that cpu power anyway. 3.6ghz is plenty

I have an e8400, asus p5e, 2x1 gig 6400 800 mhz crucial ballistix kit. I am running 445x9 cpu, 1069 mhz on ram at 5,5,5,15 timing. If i was at 1:1 ratio my ram would run at 890mhz but I cannot run better timings at the slower speed. The way I figure it I don`t need to run faster ram account of the over-volting it would take to overclock the cpu any higher. 1.3625 v is the highest I will take my e8400 even with my water cooled system. I have tried many different combinations of multiplier, fsb, ram divider and this config performs better for me at the lowest voltage to my hardware. G.Skill would be my first choice but for now I am satisfied with my 30 dollar ballistix kits performance. G.Skill "HZ" for xp users or a 2x2 kit for vista.
