Will electrostatic dust filters damage my PC?

I've read posts advising great caution against proximity between any electrostatically charged body and computer parts.

If I use an electrostatic dust filter for my intake fans, will it affect my components negatively in any way?

The filter will develop a static charge. Somewhat like walking on your carpet in winter, it could transfer a charge to you. As long as you ground yourself (prior to working on the PC) to the case after handling the filter, you should be fine.

A pic of the filter would be helpful.... but I doubt they'll help in cooling the insides of the case because of their multi layered nature. The intake fans of the case aren't made with that much suction in mind.
But anyway, the electrostatic part won't affect the parts, though you will end up with sparks as you get in contact with the case if not properly grounded due to electrostatic shielding.
