I've seen a lot of information supporting this, and a few people saying you're better off going with an 850w psu. I haven't built it yet, but I'd like to hear what you guys think. If I should go with an 850w I'll order one now and return the 750w when I get it in the mail.

Hey, good on ya. but you would have been fine with the 750 as your current rig is set up. The 4790K has pretty low power requirements. The 850 does give you upgrade room should you switch to an 8 core processor when they become more mainstream.

I'm running SLi'd 970's on a 620w PSU and have been doing so for a couple of months now and even running them @100% load they don't draw no 300w each.

Looking at Tom's own power tests. They don't hit them for long, but they will hit 300W if you get a high end 970 with a 6 and 6+2 power requirement. It also covers for PSUs running more comfortably at less than 100% load.

I'll go ahead and show you the rest of my specs so you can get a better idea.

Intel i7 4790K
Phanteks PH-TC14PE
ASUS z97 Pro
Kingston HyperX 16gb 1866mhz
WD 1TB 7200rpm
Samsung 840 EVO 120gb ssd

Funny story. I just checked Amazon and the 850w version of this PSU is the same price as the 750w, so I just cancelled my order to get the extra wattage. Thank you for your input!
