it says the mobo supports 4th and 5th gen cpus on the site. but on amazon it says CPU Support: support for Intel Core i7 processors/Intel Core i5 processors/Intel Core i3 processors/Intel Pentium processors/Intel Celeron processors in the LGA1150 package. can my cpu work on this motherboard?

Solution

ASUS Z97-A will not work. That motherboard uses LGA1150 not LGA1155. Also for all that extra stuff it says, its pretty much just advertisement and hype. The "Dual Intelligent Processors 5" really doesn't do anything to improve performance, and the "One Click, total system optimization!" is a feature almost every motherboard with Z97 chipset has.

Any LGA1155 board for the most part will work, there are some exceptions but most will work.
No it will not. Intel has been making Core i7 and Core i5 for a while now. You can know the core type by the first number in the model number.

4th Gen Core cpus start with 4xxx, 5th Gen Core CPUs start with 5xxx

The i7 3770, is a 3rd Gen i7 as indicated by the "3" at the beginning of the model number.

This one will do. Looks like it has more than 3 fan headers. Unfortunately finding quality motherboards for the 3rd Gen series is getting pretty hard now days and the selection is rather limited, but that is one of the few good ones still sold.

I actually use a 3rd Gen myself too and keep two motherboards out of concern one would break down for this reason.
