The new game called "The Evil Within" requires 4 GB of graphics memory. At least they don't recommend anything less. Anyone have any idea what we can expect in the future? Is the GPU with 2 GB of memory soon to be a thing of the past?
At resolutions larger than 1080p, yes. At 1080p or below, probably not for the foreseeable future. Will some games stretch it, sure. But id say 2gb at 1080p or less is safe for a few years anyhow. Thats my opinion.

I can almost guarantee the evil within does not need anywhere near 4gb of VRAM i dont know why they would say that. Battlefield 4 says it recommends 3gb of VRAM which it most certainly does not use at 1080p.
