Solution
if you are going to be gaming on a 1080p monitor that is limited to 60FPS, then I would not bother. the 3770 is a nice chip, but its rather lower stock clocks mean that it will hold back a 1080 in the more demanding 1080p games where the CPU really has to pull its weight. frankly I see it as, the 1080 is called the 1080, but do not use it for 1080p, use it for 1440p or 4K. I would stay tuned for updates on the RX 480, it is supposed to be around $200 and be well over 50% of the performance of a 1080. so a perfect 1080p or 1440p medium settings card.

Solution
Yes it should work just fine as long as your PSU can power it and your case is big enough for it to fit. Also is it a 3770 or a 3770K? Yeah your CPU might bottleneck the GTX 1080 at some settings so you can probably get by with a lesser GPU, but if you are gonna build a faster machine at some point you could just get the 1080 for now and put it in a new system once you build it.
