Dont mind what you saw/read, 970 is still an amazing card for its price. Definitely worth buying. Also, your CPU will be fine, i5's dont bottleneck single card, even at stock.
I have a GTX 970, and if you not going above 1080p then you will be find with the 970. 1440p is apparently possible without problem but don't reply on it.
With battlefield 4, similar to those you said. I get maxed out in 1080p with an i5 4690K, 130 to 70 on average. I don't have those games you said sorry.
And btw other thing,ive seen that their is alot of GTX 970 versions , i wont be the one who will buy it.. i will just tell him the GTX 970 name without the version,is it going to matter however version i got

There isn't too big of a difference between each version.
