Will gtx660ti work in my Hp compaq 500b with core2 duo pc?

Hey guyz, I was thinking of upgrading my computer in general. For now, I can only upgrade my graphics card then months later upgrade my pc to say an i5....
The graphic card i want to buy is a gtx660ti. The problem is I dont know if it will work in my current pc or the danger i pose to my motherboard or cpu.
I understand the cpu will bottleneck the card> of which I dont expect much performance until i upgrade my processor n mobo.
So, will it work without dangers of the card burning or loosing performance or the cpu or motherboard getting fried? Pliz honest aswers

My specs:
Processor: core 2 duo e7500 2.93ghz
Board: Hp compaq 500b OEB (donno which exactly)

Ill buy a power supply with 500W if the card will work.

I wouldn't recommend buying a new graphics card in any PC using an OEM motherboard from HP, Dell or Lenovo.
These motherboards are often not designed to deliver the normal 75W to the 16x PCI-E slot.
There is no harm in trying this if you plan to upgrade the motherboard and CPU later, but be warned the PC may not boot with the card in.

For you power supply, 500W is fine but make sure it is a good quality supply.
The Corsair CX 500 is about the cheapest power supply that isn't too bad.
XFX Pro 550 is usually a good price and this is a much better unit.
Seasonic G 550 is better again, with an 80 plus gold rating.

Hey, sometimes they even disable external VGA somehow in BIOS, only integrated one is used. If it possible try to get any PCI-E external card and try if it really works,.

See what graphics cards HP offers as upgrades for this machine.
Whatever the draw of the best card they offer is, this should be supported.
