I have a quite old PC with the following specs:

Motherboard: Biostar P4M900-M7 SE Ver. 7.1

CPU: Intel Core 2Duo E4400 2Ghz(Max. RAM frequency 800Mhz)

Support FSB(front-side bus): 533/800/1066Mhz

RAM: 1Gb DDR2 640Mhz(2x 512Mb)

HDD: 250Gb Seagate Barracuda SATA II

Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD6450 512Mb

Power Supply: 450W Delux

I want to upgrade the ram to 4Gb(the maximum supported by the motherboard). Will two Samsung 2Gb DDR2 PC2-6400U 800Mhz sticks work ? I am a little unsure about what type should I use PC2-5300 or PC2-6400 ? I found that if the RAM frequency is higher it will automatically downclock to match the motherboard and CPU's front-side bus, is it right ?

If a board supports DDR2 640, it SHOULD support DDR2 800. What I would do is look that board up and check out the specs. That will for sure tell you if its supported or not. But theoretically, yes, this should work. Unless the board is that old and only supports that frequency type. I would research before buying either way.
