Will hp 1220c print with only black ink installed

will hp 1220c print with only black ink installed or if installed color cartridge runs out? I need a b&w printer that I don't have to keep fresh color ink in.

It probably won't print without all carts present and correct -- as this would undermine HP's pension scheme.

If you want B&W only get a cheap laser, probably cheaper to buy than the average annual cost of exhausted or dried out ink cartridges
