Hi

I have the kingston t1 hyperx 3x2gb (6gb) 1333mhz ram

I want to add more but I cant find the same ram anymore, however there are identical ones but with different mhz and different sizes.

here are some info about my ram:

here is the ram that i want to buy

my question, will i be able to add this ram to my current collection?

I know that the speed will drop from 1600mhz to 1333mhz, but will 2x4gb work with my current 3x2gb?

thanks in advance

Look like your MB is the LGA1366. And if you add the new RAM, yes it will work in theory and they will be in dual channel mode. And the differences between Dual and triple is small. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/Intel-Core-i7-Nehalem,2057-13.html

But you have to ask yourself why do you need more RAM, because most of time 6GB/8GB is more than enough. Read the review. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ram-memory-upgrade,2778-8.html

But if you do the heavy video/photo editing then you do need more RAM. If you feel your PC runs slower than before then you need clean up your PC. http://www.tomsguide.com/us/pictures-story/386-pc-cleaning-tools-utilities.html

Sometime photoshop gets really annoying with 6gb ram, while I can live with that I would rather just upgrade and not think about it

is there any downside to using the 2 different rams together apart from the 1600mhz dropping to 1333?

ie

3x2gb 1333mhz
2x4gb 1600mhz

Would it be better if I removed the 3x2gb 1333mhz altogether and replaced it with the 8gb 1600?

Mixing and matching ram is not recommended. It may work fine, it may not work at all. No guarantees. It is suggested as a best practice to purchase ram together as a 'kit'. Even mixing identical modules (but not in a kit) has no guarantee of success, which is why they make kits

Just like C12Friedman said when you mix the RAM there is no guarantee to work each other. Use the photoshop you need do the optimize performance (I used it too), you can go to adobe website to check it out.

If the budget is no problem, buy the 3X4GB or just 2X4GB, and if they work fine then keep that way (mixing them together), otherwise only use the new RAM kit (2X4Gb ram). But it is hard to call.
