Will I be able to set this up? Modem -> Switch -> Router -> Computer

My modem is in a very inconvenient place in my house, and it can't be moved. It's in a box in the wall in one corner of 1900sq ft so the other side of the house doesn't have wifi access if I put the router in there with the modem. The house is wired so that every room has an ethernet port, and the connections for all of those ports are in the box with the modem, so with a 4 port router I have to choose which rooms have access to wired internet and which don't. What I would like to do is put an 8-port switch in the box with the modem so that every room's ethernet port is active, and set up the router in the living room through one of the wired ports, and then plug my computer in to the router. I'm just not sure if the router will work plugged in to the switch. Here is my hardware:
Modem: ARRIS / Motorola SurfBoard SB6183 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem
Switch: TP-LINK TL-SG1008D 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch
Router: TP-LINK Archer C9 AC1900 Dual Band Wireless AC Gigabit Router

If it won't work it's fine... I'll just buy a range extender. I already have the modem and the router and would prefer the switch in with the modem, but if I can't set it up that way, so be it. If I need a range extender instead of the switch, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes and No. It will work with just a single wired computer/router in the house but what good would be wiring all the rooms to a switch that you can't actually use more than 1 device.
Your problem is the ISP will only give you a single ip (well you can pay for more sometimes). The router is the device that allows multiple devices to share and unfortunately it must plug directly into the modem.

I would buy another router and use it in place of the switch...you can use your switch also to get more ports if needed. Then to get wireless coverage take your other router and plug it into the wall jack in the room that has poor coverage. You really want to run this device as a AP to make you network simpler but you can run it as a router if you wish.

Whatever you do not not use a wireless repeater to try to solve this problem, these device degrade your network a lot and should only be used when you have no other options.

If you are going to use the switch, the router has to be between it and the modem else it won't work. If the Wi-Fi is for the rooms that couldn't be connected due to limited ports, then running a short jumper from Modem>Router>Switch then connect the rooms to the switch should allow more(or all rooms) to be connected. You'll just need a switch with enough ports.

You can have two cables going back and forth:
- modem-in-closet -> cable -> router-in-room -> cable -> switch-in-closet -> cables-to-other-rooms
If you don't need 1gb wired connections, and your cables are full 4-pairs Cat5 or more, you can use something like this to run two Ethernet connections thru single cable
