I am wondering if when building a budget gaming pc I will be able to tell the difference between, say a 700 dollar pc and a 1000 dollar pc. I dont plan on playing any extremely needy games like crysis, I only play FPS like Counterstrike and Day of Defeat. Other than that, I only browse the web and listen to iTunes. Thanks a lot.

It depends really on the component choices. You can have a $1000 dollar system with i7 920, 12gig ram, but 9600GT video card, and a $700 dollar system with E8400, 4gigs ram and HD4870, the latter will be noticeably faster.

Both of his systems will play the game titles you mention extremely well. The i7 system has a better upgrade path. The prices he quotes seem to lack a few things most forum readers already own Hard Drives, OS, etc.

See if a drop in upgrade might be a cheaper/better solution.
Just last week I was set to build an i7 rig. I decided instead to replace my e6400 with a q6600 for about $180 and buy a big tv instead.... God Bless tax return season.. (actually I might save the tv funds for a rainy day)

I think I'm good for a couple more years.... I might need a DX 11 card some time.
