I am going to upgrade my CPU the comming week but I dont know wich one to buy.

My specs are the following:

PSU: Corsair CX600M 600W Modula
GPU: Zotac Geforce GTX 970 4Gb
Motherboard: Asus PSU H97-PLUS LGA1150 ATX
RAM: Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
Current CPU: Intel Core i5 4460 LGA1150

On http://processormatch.intel.com/ I learned that the best possible processor that fits in my motherboard is the intel core i7 4760k but im wondering if it is compatible with the rest of my pc (im a noob when it comes to pc building, since im only 15 and the only one in my family whos interested in pc's).

Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

Correct. Now armed with the above knowledge and if you look into the cost of buying a Z97 board, DDR3 2133MHz kit and an i7 unlocked variant Haswell(brand new or even second hand) will land you square on a brand new platform/architecture, i.e Skylake.

That really is not an upgrade that makes sense to me, but you can upgrade to an i7-4770K (or i5-4670K), just insure that you have at least bios version 301 installed.

HERE is the list of supported CPUs for your board and which bios is needed to use them.

All other parts you list are compatible.

The reason why I'm upgrading is because my CPU apparently doesn't let me use my GPU to its full potenial, and that I want to use my computer to steaming ( I've heard that you need a good CPU for that).
Is this wrong?

I would ask a follow up question - what kind of monitor resolution are we working with here? That setup is perfectly fine on 1080P but if you're working with something higher I can see it struggling to keep up.

It's wrong in the sense that you're trying to pair an unlocked or perhaps slightly lower processor in your system that is powered by an H97 chip which in essence was meant for the HTPC crowd on minimal gaming scenario's. In other words, your chipset/platform is locked to operate at DDR3/DDR3L 1600MHz while you can't overclock on the processor end either. As my colleague's and RealBeast have pointed out, it's not a worth while investment unless you're buying said parts for cheap as chips.

If you go for the K suffixed i7's or i5's then you'll be needing a Z97 based motherboard and at least DDR3-2133MHz ram kits to extract the sweet spot out of said platform/upgrades.

I want to play overwatch on 150+ fps constantly, since my monitor is 144 hz. Also I want to be able to stream from my PC, with the best possible fps.

So what you're saying is that to be able to use the CPU to its full potential I also need to upgrade my ram, which I cant because my motherboard is too bad, and therefore I need to upgrade both motherboard and ram?

Your own link for RAM speed scaling shows only single digit % performance increases. Yes, he won't get the maximum performance out of something like a 4790k with his current setup, but he will still get most of the performance out of it, and should get a decent performance boost compared to his 4460 in CPU-bound scenarios. The cost of the upgrade will be a lot lower than getting a whole new platform, and will still be powerful enough to last for years (maybe just add another 8 GB of RAM at some point).

Now, it will obviously depend on how much he'd have to pay for a 4790k, but it seems like a decent option to me.

Best CPU you can get for that motherboard is i7 4790k, to make it work you will need to update motherboard BIOS to version 2001 or above, also it would be wise to get some aftermarket tower cooler for that CPU since it tends to run hot with stock cooler under higher loads.
For streaming you will need high internet upload speed if you dont want to experience lagg during gameplay. 16 GB of RAM is also advisable for streaming.
