Will I benifit with OCing an FX-8350?

Hello,

A few months ago I built a gaming PC with AMD's FX-8350 that comes stock at 4 GHz, along with an XFX Radeon 7850 1GB Core Edition and an ASUS M5A97 R2.0 mobo. Recently I've gotten Far Cry 3, and can play it at maxed settings at a good framerate, but at certain points, such as the loading screen when fast-travelling, I'm down 8-10. Right now I've got the stock cooler on my FX-8350, and it can run, at times, at 6k RPM and the CPU being at around 55-65 degrees celcius. I know if I were to OC, I'd need a better cooler, but now I'm mainly asking is if I'd get much of a performance increase going up to 4.5 GHz or possibly higher. Also, if I were to get that high, can you recommend and any good coolers? Budget's $50-$100.

CPU: AMD FX-8350
GPU: XFX Radeon 7850 1 GB Core Edition
Mobo: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
RAM: Kingston HyperX Red 8 GB 2x4GB
PSU: Corsair Gaming Series GS600

yes sometimes it will try to underclock when it shouldnt for some reason( depending on bios settings) as well as it tries to push to much voltage when its doesnt need to go that high

you need a super cooler to keep these 8 cores cool under full load

4.615ghz 1.39v 230 fsb 1650 on both the ht and cpu/nb link. you can feel the difference completely.

for me the turbo is horrible and feels laggy and raises the voltage way to high. even just disabling the turbo mode for now you will notice a difference in your games.


if you want to keep it cool i would get the h100 or h100i or any equivalent if it will fit and it will be quieter than most heatsinks

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 < not a great overclocking board , be careful , FX8350 shouldn't go past 62 degrees c.

that mobo is a 970 chipset....dont you need a 990 to safely oc?

990 is the preferred OC board.

Will it do ant damage to the board if I were to OC to 4.5 GHz? I know I'd need a good cooler for that, tho

1.38v @ 5.1ghz? how did you manage that, probably bec its an 8350 but still haha i cant 5.1 stable unless its like 1.5v but it may have been my crappy old psu





as far as that board its only a 4+2 power phase design so you may not be able to over clock real well
