I considering upgrading my CPU form a 3600x to a 5800x. Will I get a decent performance upgrade with this? I play both GPU and CPU demanding games and understand that I probably wont gain much in GPU heavy games. But how much of a boost can I expect in games such as Rainbow Six Siege, Valorant, Fornite, Overwatch, CSGO etc?

R5 3600x
2070 Super
3200mhz 16gb

Motherboard is asus rog strix b450-f, ram is cl15
In conjunction with 5800x, 3600MHz Ram should work fine but probably not much over 3200. You would need to upgrade BIOS version to newest anyway to be compatible with new CPU. Yes 5800X would be very good upgrade specially for multi core. At single core level probably over 20% better. Don't know about your cooling, will probably need to upgrade that too. Another option is 5700x which is much easier to cool while loosing little performance.

Im using the h100i platinum so i think Im good on cooling. Would i only see a significant boost If I also utgrade my ram to 3600mhz?

That's good enough for any CPU, expect temps up to 80c at full. all core load. 5800c runs hot but with 95c throttle limit, so no problem.
Ram, 3200 to 3600MHz only benchmarks show some improvement (I tested it). Maybe you should look up 5800x3D for even better performance in games. Faster memory would have more impact on them.

depends on your current gpu ..even at 1080p your still going to see better results using a better gpu..
a 3600 is still a great cpu.. now im not saying your not going to see uplift ..

but i always recommend bang for buck at it always always starts with the GPU !!

there will come a point paring a 3600 with a big boy GPU 4080 7900xt 4090 7900xtx its going to bottle neck.

But i doubt your looking at big $$$ for a big upgrade

3600cl 16 ddr 4 32gb is my go to Ram on my AM4 system !!
3600 cl 14 is the best of the best but rare expensive and small gains for the money !!

thanks, i think i might wait to upgrade. my pc still does well in most games i play. i have been considering a completely new build aswell, so ill probably wait until the time is right for a new build:)

I would just get a x3d part. Its a significantly faster cpu especially for games and will extend your system's life for a few more years. How much of an improvement will depend on what games/resolution you play at.

I play on 1080p. I do play alot of comepetive titles, but also some more GPU heavy games. But since I play on 1080p I still get decent performance on more GPU heavy games.

I have a 650W PSU, 2070S and 16gb 3000mhz cl15 ram. I know the 5800x3d consumes more power. Do I need to also upgrade PSU or RAM? Or both?
