I curently have 1GB in a 2x512MB configuration, if I add 2 1GB sticks for 3GB total (2x512 + 2x 1GB), will I lose dual channel?

My current RAM is Corsair Value select and my motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-965P-S3

If I will lose dual channel, is it a big loss or is it not all that important?

Thanks fo any help 😀

I lost overclocking ability on an older (945) gigabyte board by having 4x512mb installed in it. Switched to 2x1GB and it returned. It seems to stress the motherboard more having more chips installed but I don't have a source to refer to on that so take it with a grain of salt.

I have a DS3 Rev 1.0 board. From the manual in the memory sections it states:

"The motherboard supports DDR II memory modules, whereby BIOS will automatically detect memory capacity and specifications. Memory modules are designed so that they can be inserted only in one direction. The memory capacity used can differ with each slot."

"When memory modules of different size and chips are installed, a message which indicates that memory is configured to Flex memory mode operation will appear during POST. Intel® Flex Memory Technology offers easier upgrades by allowing different memory sizes to be populated and remain in dual-channel mode."

You should be fine.
