Will I lose performance if I compress an SSD?

I have a Dell Venue 11 Pro tablet with a Core i5 CPU and 256 GB SanDisk M.2 SSD and 8 GB RAM. I'm already running out of space on the SSD as well as my microSD card. If I compress the SSD using Windows 8.1's built in NTFS compression tool, am I going to lose a lot of system performance to the point where it's very noticeable? I know with HDD's compression slows down the hard drive, but does the same thing happen to SSD's?

Solution
Well you don't defragment SSDs, so that shouldn't come up. Trim will take care of that itself.

Using Windows to compress will slow things down somewhat. But you've got a decently fast processor so I'm not quite sure how much it would effect things. It would certainly reduce your battery life to compress and uncompress things all the time.

Have you considered external storage options or cloud based storage?
